Human bones rain down at Whitby after church yard land slide.

Some more photos from the Bram Stoker International Film Festival fashion show 2012 taken at Whitby, UK. the celebrated town of Dracula and wonderful for all followers of goth.  Whitby has recently been in the news for its terrible land slides in the graveyard where reportedly “human bones were raining  down” on to the cottages and gardens below. A very sad scene for such a historic and beautifully situated Church. Link to the story on the BBC below.

The Bram Stoker International Film Festival Fashion Show continued.

Part three of photos from The Bram Stoker International Film Festival Fashion Show held in Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK.

This is our third model; the scumptious Evie Wolfe wearing a shocking pink bird fascinator and matching beautiful corset and skirt. I designed the hat to contrast with her blue hair!  I wanted to keep the collection themed by Gaslight romance and Victorian horror.

We had a fun weekend, with great friends, excellent entertainment in the wonderful town of Whitby and finished it off Sunday at midnight watching the 1992 Dracula film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, based on Bram Stoker’s novel.

Whitby is a seaside town and port situated on the east coast of Yorkshire, England. Once a year it holds the film Festival and twice a year the Gothic music weekends in April and then at Halloween.

Whitby is the home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, has a history of fishing and whaling, was where Captain Cook learned seamanship, the steam railway arrived in 1839, jet and alum were mined locally with Whitby jet being sort after and fashionable by the Victorians and is associated with the horror novel Dracula writen by Bram Stoker.  Dracula leaves his castle and boards a Russian ship, the Demeter, taking along with him boxes of Transylvanian soil, which he needs in order to regain his strength. During the voyage to Whitby, he sustains himself on the ship’s crew members. Only one body is later found, that of the captain, who is found tied up to the ship’s helm. The captain’s log is recovered and tells of strange events that had taken place during the ship’s journey. Dracula leaves the ship in the form of a dog.

Winchester celebrating the royal jubilee.

Winchester, UK,  the ancient capital is celebrating the Queen’s Diamond jubilee by hanging out the bunting in the high street. What an amazing sight, there is so much bunting hanging off of every building.

During the summer I work for a bat consultancy company.

During the summer I work for a bat consultancy company surveying buildings for evidence of bats. Bats in the UK are an endangered species. I have not been able to make, create or sew anything this week as I attended a bat fieldwork course at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, UK.  I had a brilliant time exploring the abbey, looking for, recording and finding bats! Mostly Lesser and Greater Horseshoe bats. Pipistrelle bats really do emerge from the mouth of a gargolye high up on the tower, how gothic is that? :)

Steampunk Wild Wild West Bullet Garters.

I found this cool old tan leather holster, just the right size for a lipstick, a mobile phone and a purse. I put it together with a bullet garter belt, one for each leg and some bullet conchos.

Below are a pair of  Steampunk western style bullet garter belts I made.  Adorned with lace, bullet casings and bullet conchos.

Spats that look great with high heel shoes.

I designed another type of spat shape, that flatter the ankle for my niece to wear with her high heel shoes.  I loved the shape so much that I made a pair for myself too in leather and spikes.

I have an exhibit at the MAD (Mechanical Art & Design) Museum

Professor Maelstromme is exhibiting exquisite items at this new Museum which opens to the public in March, located in Stratford-upon-Avon, the hometown of Shakespeare, UK

The MAD museum is a wonderful and exciting collection of machines incorporating gears, chains, pulleys and whirligig paraphernalia. The exhibits fall into three areas:

  • Kinetic Art = art in motion
  • Automata = interesting mechanical contraptions
  • Steampunk = modern gizmos with a Victorian twist
