Fake Taxidermy Black Bird Gothic Hat.

I love making fake taxidermy pieces or as I like to call it taxifakery. It brings to mind Victorian science collections of birds and insects. Plus surely that is the whole point of Steampunk too, that the taxidermy is fake and Frankenstein-ed.

This is a cute Gothic perch hat which will look great perched on top of any hair do.

Rococo Punk Ship Hairpiece

I punked this ship fascinator hairpiece with chains, tartan ribbon and safety pins. I Frankenstein-ed the flowers mashing up pink and animal print and beware the base is leopard print with pink edging.

Aviatrix Fascinator by Prof Maelstromme

Aviatrix fascinator

Aviatrix fascinator

I have been trying to fit making this fascinator into my making schedule for a couple of years. It has been shelved for many other projects and I finally got round to finishing it!  It is based on a flying helmet,  and I have incorporated vintage parts from a flying helmet and aviator goggles. Recycling or upcycling the artifacts, well it has saved them from the landfill.

The original idea was created to match and be worn with this wonderful flying jacket corset which was made for the Asylum Steampunk fashion show.

hat1

I felt sorry for this poor vintage creature when I found him at the London Dungeon car boot sale. Yes! they really did have a stall selling all their Jack the Ripper tour stuff and booty when they moved location in London. I curled the vintage creature round the brim of a brown tweed hat with a few other curios and artifacts.

The Bram Stoker International Film Festival Fashion Show continued.

Part three of photos from The Bram Stoker International Film Festival Fashion Show held in Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK.

This is our third model; the scumptious Evie Wolfe wearing a shocking pink bird fascinator and matching beautiful corset and skirt. I designed the hat to contrast with her blue hair!  I wanted to keep the collection themed by Gaslight romance and Victorian horror.

Mad Tea Party Fascinators ~

While clearing out my mums attic I found a wonderful childs doll small china tea set. My mum gave me a bottle of Pimms for doing it! so after a couple of glasses I made the teacups and saucers into hats.  I immediately went out searching all of the local antique shops for more, the mismatched the better.  I have added artificial flowers, hair net, hat pins, spoons, vintage odd earrings and even a spider!

I have a stall at Whitby Gothic Weekend this weekend.

Whitby is a seaside town in North Yorkshire, England.  It has a combined maritime, mineral and tourist heritage, and is home to the ruins of  Whitby Abbey.  The fishing port developed herring and whaling fleets and was where Captain Cook learned seamanship. Tourism started in Whitby in Georgian times and developed with the coming of the Steam railway in 1839 and the Steam railway is still there today. Well known for its association with the horror novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, its Jet and alum were mined locally, and Whitby jet, which was mined by the Victorians became fashionable during the 19th century.

Goths meet here twice a year, April and October to socialize, enjoy the cobbled streets of the fishing town , cafes, pubs and shop in the brilliant selection of Goth and Steampunk stalls available over these weekends.

Whitby Abbey ruins and beautiful coast view.

found antler fascinator

A friend of mine works in forestry and found these antlers in his woods. I have painted them purple and silver and mounted them on a purple colour fascinator. This item, spats, hats and jewellery I will have on my stall at Whitby, the Spa Theater 26th – 29th April.
